Iranian ‘Tonight’s Homework’ to participate at IDFA’s Luminous

Iran’s ‘Tonight’s Homework’ is to be screened at Int’l Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Iran’s ‘Tonight’s Homework’ has made its way to the Luminous Section of the 34th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in the Netherlands, bringing to two the number of Iranian films taking part in that premiere-only section.

In ‘Tonight’s Homework’, Ashkan Nejati and Mehran Nematollahi, the directors of the documentary, repeat questions, asked by Iran’s prominent director Abbas Kiarostami in his 1989 film ‘Homework’, to students at a public school, including questions about homework, punishments, and dreams of the future to see how the society have changed.

Earlier reports said Iranian film ‘Makeup Artist’ by Jafar Najafi will also be screened at the Luminous Section.

Meanwhile, ‘Water, Wind, Dust, Bread’ from Iran will participate in the IDFA Competition for Youth Documentary.

The participation of ‘Tonight’s Homework’ in the IDFA marks its World Premiere.

According to website of the festival, “A wide range of styles and formalist approaches dot the Luminous selection, from observational to personal to experimental. Collectively, the selection expresses a highly intimate engagement with our fellow humans—those who resiliently strive to overcome adversity.”

The 34th edition of the IDFA will take place in person on November 17-28.
